The articles on voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) for adolescents in this special supplement to the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases point to areas where programmes are achieving successes and reveal areas for improvement. The introduction summarises the key findings and lessons learned from nine studies. Eight of the articles report on how well adolescents in South Africa, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe are reached and served by comprehensive HIV prevention services that include VMMC. One article presents the results of a modelling analysis and recommendations for achieving high VMMC coverage by 2021.
