Male Circumcision Under Local Anaesthesia: Training Package
This three-part training package contains support materials designed for use by qualified clinical trainers to instruct health service providers on how to competently offer male circumcision to adults and adolescents under local anaesthesia. The training package is intended to be used comprehensively with the WHO/UNAIDS/Jhpiego Manual for Male Circumcision under Local Anaesthesia (2009, PDF, 2.87 MB). Ideally, for each course, trainers should build competencies in a single surgical method: forceps-guided, dorsal slit, or sleeve resection.
A qualified male circumcision trainer is one who:
- Is proficient in one of the three male circumcision methods described in the Manual
- Has successfully completed a clinical training skills course following competency-based training principles
- Has the clinical and didactic resources needed to meet all of the male circumcision training objectives associated with competency
Trainers' Notebook (2008 PDF, 3.36 MB): This document provides a detailed course outline with objectives for each training activity, a suggested course schedule, visual aids, instructions for all learning activities, and tools for assessing knowledge and clinical skills.
