VMMC at AIDS 2016

Voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) for HIV prevention was highlighted in eight sessions, one oral abstract presentation, and 64 posters at the 21st International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2016) in Durban, South Africa, from 18 to 22 July.Three satellite sessions on the first day of the conference featured presentations and discussions about VMMC: one on VMMC as an entry point for other health services for men and adolescent boys, a second about maximizing investments in VMMC, and a third on updates of clinical manuals for medical male circumcision. A fourth satellite session examined lessons from applying quality assurance and quality improvement approaches to enhance VMMC services. Presentations in other sessions addressed the next steps in rolling out VMMC, cost, cost-effectiveness, and future directions in VMMC for HIV prevention.
