VMMC uptake rebounds in Zimbabwe

The Clearninghouse on Male Circumcision for HIV Prevention is moving to the new Global HIV Prevention Coalition’s Resource Hub. All of our resources have been transferred to the GPC site, where additional VMMC resources will continue to be posted as part of the Adolescent Boys and Men pillar. The number of men who received voluntary medical male circumcision services (VMMC) in Zimbabwe increased by about 80 percent in 2021 compared to 2020, The Chronicle reports. Data released by the National AIDS Council show that 151,037 men were circumcised in 2021, up from 82,060 in 2020. VMMC uptake had declined in 2020 and 2021 due to service disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which also reversed the downward trend in HIV-related deaths in Zimbabwe (The Chronicle [Zimbabwe], 2 April 2022).
