On May 5 — Global Hand Hygiene Day 2020 — of the Year of the Nurse and the Midwife, the World Health Organization recognizes the key role of healthcare workers in preventing avoidable infections. Hand hygiene has been critical to the safe provision of voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) and good wound care by clients. This year, in the age of COVID-19, it is more important than ever. VMMC providers can contribute the unique experiences, resources, training, creative ideas, and networks they have gained in delivering VMMC to support hand hygiene and help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
