Acceptability of a Pilot Intervention of Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision and HIV Education for Street-connected Youth in Western Kenya

Clearinghouse Digest Icon-web

As part of a pilot “retreat” intervention in Kenya, 116 male youth who were living on the streets were provided with voluntary medical male circumcision and HIV education and life skills in a comfortable environment. The results of semi-structured exit interviews, published in Adolescent Health, demonstrated that the intervention was acceptable to the youth, especially because it provided them with food, shelter, security, and a safe place to recover from circumcision.
