This introduction to a 9 December satellite session of the 21st International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA 2021) shows the progress made in scaling up voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) services from 2008 to 2020 against the goal for 2020. It includes the agenda for the satellite session, which was convened by the Joint United Nations on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the U.S. President's Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) to examine the past and potential impact of VMMC on HIV in eastern and southern Africa.
