Almost 800,000 men and boys were circumcised during the first phase of Kenya’s voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) programme from 2008 to 2013. The programme reached its coverage goal in the Nyanza region, where most of the implementation took place, and achieved 71 percent of its national goal of reaching 860,000 men ages 15-49. This assessment report describes the approaches used and lessons learnt during the first phase of the programme and includes recommendations for the next phase of implementation.
