Researchers assessed the indirect out-of-pocket costs, such as transportation costs and foregone income, that may create barriers to voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) services. Cost and demographic data were systematically collected through 190 interviews conducted in 2015 with VMMC clients or their caregivers at 25 VMMC facilities in eight of South Africa’s nine provinces. Their findings are described in an article in a PLoS collection of VMMC modelling studies.
