The available evidence suggests that women play an important role in voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) for HIV prevention. This four-page briefs reviews some of the benefits of involving women in VMMC and some of the negative effects of not involving them. It also presents gender issues that should be considered in the planning and implementation of VMMC services and describes efforts to integrate these gender considerations in a VMMC programme in Uganda.
