The introduction to a special supplement of the Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes describes the need for and the development of seven rapid impact evaluations of interventions to create demand for voluntary medical male circumcision. The authors examine insights from the evaluations and lessons from the interventions, which were conducted in Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
