Manual for Male Circumcision Under Local Anaesthesia

Manual for Early Infant Male Circumcision under Local Anaesthesia

The World Health Organization (WHO), in collaboration with the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and Jhpiego, developed this manual as part of its support to countries in providing safe male circumcision services. Designed for providers of voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) services and programme managers, it covers methods selected for their safety and practicality for use in resource-limited settings. The manual is included as a guidance document in the PEPFAR guide to best practices for VMMC site operations. A training package that includes materials for trainers and participants is also available. A full description of best practices for surgery and anaesthesia in resource-limited settings can be found in the WHO publication, Surgical Care at the District Hospital (Geneva, WHO, 2003). Note: a new edition of the manual was published in 2018.
