The almost 3.5 million voluntary medical male circumcisions (VMMCs) supported by the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) in fiscal year 2017 represent the largest single-year increase in VMMC results, according to the PEPFAR 2018 Annual Report to Congress. The section of the report about VMMC for HIV prevention says that PEPFAR continues to prioritise this intervention to prevent HIV among young men in eastern and southern Africa, and it describes innovative solutions PEPFAR is implementing to address barriers to VMMC uptake.
