
In 2008, WHO and UNAIDS convened a meeting in Kenya to examine the implications of male circumcision for women. Building on that meeting, this brief summarizes what is known about the indirect health benefits of male circumcision for women and the impact of voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) programmes on women’s health. It also recommends actions in the areas of service delivery, communication and advocacy, and research to determine how the scale-up of VMMC programmes is affecting women.
