The annual report of the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) describes voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) as one of the biomedical interventions having the greatest impact in efforts to control the HIV epidemic. As of 30 September 2018, PEPFAR had supported the provision of VMMC services to about 18.9 million men and boys. A section on VMMC for HIV prevention summarises progress and provides examples from PEPFAR-supported programmes.
