In a presentation that was given in a plenary session at the 20th International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA 2019), Julia Samuelson of the World Health Organization examines the benefits of voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) for HIV prevention, its past and projected impact on the epidemic, and lessons from VMMC programme experience. The presentation recommends using the entry point of VMMC services to help fill gaps in HIV prevention and improve the health of men and adolescent boys.
