Voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) was highlighted during four sessions and in 26 abstracts at the International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA) from 4–9 December 2017 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
Presentations about VMMC were part of two abstract-driven sessions — one about sexually transmitted infections on 5 December and one on new approaches to HIV prevention on 6 December. Two satellite symposia on Thursday, 8 December, were devoted to VMMC: "Man, What Took You So Long? What the HIV Response Can Learn from VMMC Scale Up," organised by Jhpiego, and the World Health Organization's session on “Reaching Adolescent Boys for HIV Prevention, Improved Health and Transformative Gender Interventions through VMMC.”
Abstracts are available on the conference website through the online programme.
