This update from the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) documents reductions in new HIV infections of 52 percent among children and 33 percent among adults and children combined since 2001; it pays particular attention to the progress of voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) programmes in 16 countries (see pages 18-20, PDF, 68 KB) and shows that the cumulative number of men circumcised through 14 of these programmes doubled in 2012, from 1.5 million in December 2011 to 3.2 million in December 2012.
