Country Updates

The World Health Organization and the United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) recommend that voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) be offered as part of a comprehensive HIV prevention strategy in areas with high prevalence of heterosexually transmitted HIV and low rates of male circumcision. Based on this recommendation, expanding access to safe VMMC services is considered a priority in 15 countries in eastern and southern Africa.

Information about progress on VMMC implementation in all the priority countries is provided under Global updates.  Updates by country and project descriptions and case studies are also available. The Assessments and evaluations page includes knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) studies, situation analyses, and evaluations of VMMC programmes.
