Priority countries in eastern and southern Africa have adopted national policies or similar guidance to ensure that voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) is addressed within their comprehensive HIV prevention strategies. They have also created national strategies and operational plans for implementing those policies. In addition, tools have been developed for those involved in planning, executing, and monitoring programmes that offer male circumcision as an HIV risk-reduction strategy.
A number of documents from international organizations offer global guidance on VMMC policy and programmatic issues. National policies and strategies, programme guidelines and tools, and resources for training, quality assurance, and monitoring and evaluation are also available.
