To help VMMC programmes introduce “smart” syringes engineered with features to prevent sharps injuries and reuse, Project IQ is working with service providers in selected countries to pilot multiple models of smart syringes that meet the World Health Organization quality standards and specifications for use in routine VMMC service delivery. This preliminary report summarises providers’ and programme managers’ feedback from an initial proof-of-concept exercise using smart syringes with reuse prevention features in Zambia. The report will be updated as information from pilot programmes in other countries becomes available.
