This orientation and resource guide describes considerations for the planning, operation, and maintenance of a reusable surgical instrument inventory, drawing from the implementation experiences of programmes that either always relied on reusables or made the transition away from single-use surgical instruments. The guide summarises insights from the available literature, expert consultations on safe surgery, and programme experience, including feedback from front-line health workers and programme managers. This second edition reflects additional experience with reusable instruments in voluntary medical male circumcision programmes since the guide was published in July 2017.
