thumbnail_UNAIDS WHO VMMC progress brief 16Feb2021

Nearly 27 million voluntary medical male circumcisions (VMMCs) had been performed in 15 priority countries by the end of 2019, and more than 60% of the 2020 VMMC target had been reached before services were disrupted by the SARS-CoV2 pandemic, UNAIDS and the World Health Organization report. This brief summarises progress in VMMC scale-up from 2008 to 2019, with an emphasis on 2016 to 2019, presents modelling data on the impact of VMMC on the HIV epidemic, and emphasises the need to ensure site readiness and a focus on reaching clients 15 years and older as services resume.
