The World Health Organization (WHO) provides health care workers, hospital administrators, and health authorities with a thorough review of the evidence on hand hygiene in health care and specific recommendations to improve practices and reduce transmission of pathogenic microorganisms to patients and health care workers. The guidance on hand hygiene and infection prevention and control in the Manual for Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision under Local Anaesthesia and HIV Prevention for Adolescent Boys and Men is based on these guidelines.
